History will judge and prove if “Make America Great, Again!” as a campaign slogan will become as memorable as the 50’s “I Like Ike!” or “Ol’ Tippecanoe and Tyler, too!”
I personally like: “Back the KarPACs!”
The slogan does beg the question, what made us great in the past and makes America Great today?
As we approach the celebration of labor’s contributions in American society, the beginning of the fall political campaign season, and Friday Night Lights, I venture to say the hand and might of labor which built America made us great. From the canal projects the Whig Party championed in the early 1800’s, to the building of the National Road (Route 40) to the transcontinental railroads linking the East with the West, labor has been heavily involved.
Some scholars have claimed that unions and unionism-built America’s middle class to what it is today.
Do you agree?
If MAGA triumphs on November 5th, will LABOR have a dog in the fight against BIG TECH, BIG PHARMA, BIG STEEL, and the other industry titans out there?
For workers, will wages rise in the economy or remain sticky?
Does the proposed sale of U.S. Steel to Nippon bring American steel workers any hope that pay & health and pension benefits will be protected in any new contract talks?
My maternal Grandfather was a proud UMWA member and many of his generation suffered from a respiratory condition known as “Black Lung” from working the coal mines.
Is there anyone out there like give ‘em hell, Harry (Truman, that is) willing to reignite and reinvigorate the American labor and union movement against the idle holders of capital?
